The camera systems in modern cars are astounding. I may be an old codger, but I'm still amazed when I see an SUV with a rearview camera. A wonderful safety feature!

Thermal Imaging Technology Improves Nighttime Driving Safety
Portland, OR - October 29, 2007 - FLIR Systems, Inc.
(NASDAQ:FLIR) announced the release of PathFindIR, the core thermal imager in BMW's Night Vision nighttime driving aid, to the after-market automotive community. The PathFindIR thermal imager reduces the risks for anyone who drives at night by allowing them to see 5-times farther than with headlights.
The PathFindIR's thermal imager creates real-time video by detecting subtle differences in temperature, which the driver views from any in dash or aftermarket display with an auxiliary video input. To a thermal imager, warm objects appear white and cool objects appear black.
By allowing drivers to see so much farther, PathFindIR gives drivers more time to react to objects in front of their vehicle. Additionally, with PathFindIR drivers can see vehicles, pedestrians, and animals before they even enter the road, monitoring their activity as they approach the road from either side.
"We are pleased to be able to make this lifesaving technology available to the broader automotive community," said Earl Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of FLIR Systems.
