Raymarine Announces the Newest Additions to its Family of VHF Radios with the Ray55 10/4/2007
Compact VHF Radio Offers Unmatched Performance & Style
Merrimack, N.H. - October 4, 2007 - Raymarine, Inc., a world leader in marine electronics, today announced the release of its new Ray55 DSC VHF Radio, a waterproof, fixed mount VHF Radio with Class D Digital Select Calling and an optional full-function second station. Compact and powerful, the Ray55 provides professional grade VHF performance paired with a rugged yet stylish design, allowing boaters to improve communications on the water without compromising design.
In the event of an emergency, boaters can use the Ray55's Class D Digital Selective Calling (DSC) transceiver to communicate vital emergency information including the boat's ID, position and time of distress. In addition, the radio will instantly transmit a digital mayday along with the boat's GPS position when the radio's easy-to-access distress is pressed. The Ray55 can also receive up to the minute NOAA weather alerts, providing boaters with the latest reports when they're out to sea.
"With the new Ray55, we continue our tradition of providing quality and reliable VHF radios to the recreational marine market," said Terry Carlson, president of Raymarine. "Raymarine's full line of radios allows our customers to head out on the water knowing they're equipped with the most advanced radio technology and that everything they need for communicating at sea is at their fingertips."
The well-equipped Ray55 boasts an extra large dot matrix LCD, intuitive rotary controls for channel, volume, squelch and menu operation, and four modes of programmable scanning (all, saved, priority all and priority saved) that allow users to quickly access the proper frequency. Additionally, the radio's Dual Channel Display (2UP Mode) allows users to view active and standby channels simultaneously, and the programmable favorite soft keys enable quick switching between preferred channels. The radio also includes a speaker microphone with controls and a remote mounting option, and a quick access 16/9 key embedded within the handset.
In addition, Raymarine offers the option of expanding the Ray55 with the powerful RayMic remote handset, which enables full function radio control and intercom capability from a remote onboard station. The Ray55 also features NMEA 0183 input with GPS Position, COG and SOG display and chartplotter position polling using NMEA 0183 output.
