Delphi Technologies Are Shown Across All Vehicle Segments At The Geneva Motor Show
More and more European cars feature innovative Delphi technologies
Release date: March 3, 2008
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND -- The momentum for this year's Geneva Motor show is building up with the launch of some eagerly anticipated cars. What do the new luxury Mercedes CLC; the Volvo XC60 SUV, the all-new super mini Ford Fiesta and the Volkswagen Passat Coupe all due for launch at this year's Geneva Motor Show have in common? The answer is Delphi.
A significant variety of Delphi technologies on vehicles across various segments and from a large number of brands will be showcased.
Delphi's Battery Disconnect Safety Device (BDSD): Safe, easy to replace, up to 20 percent less expensive: BDSD has become standard equipment on vehicles produced by many German automakers, including Audi and Mercedes. This innovative technology from Delphi prevents short circuiting that could occur following some collisions. Delphi's BDSD severs the connection between the battery and the starter and alternator in less than 1 millisecond after an electrical signal from the airbag control unit triggers the pyrotechnic safety switch. While severing power between the battery and starter and alternator in passenger vehicles following collisions is not new, Delphi's BDSD is far more reliable than the systems involving electromechanical relays and standard fuses and is also easy to replace. In many instances, Delphi's BDSD is also less expensive - up to 20 percent less expensive than some competitors' products.
Delphi's data connectivity systems offer consumers choices. Delphi's data connectivity systems, which include consumer ports, cables, hubs and header connections, enable passengers to download MP3 music files from iPods and pen drives and listen to them through the vehicle's audio system as well as view images stored on photo cards, play video games, charge cell phones, connect laptops and more. Interfaces between the vehicle's electrical system and external consumer equipment can be located throughout the passenger compartment so they are easily accessible to both front- and rear-seat passengers and they may accommodate a variety of consumer devices: standard USB ports such as those included on the new Lancia Delta, RCA jacks for video games, analog ports for headphones, SD slots for photo cards - whatever will best meet consumers' needs and desires. Delphi's hub can accommodate multiple consumer interfaces or connectivity among vehicle systems, enabling automakers to transform vehicle interiors into multi-functional on-the-road offices and entertainment centers capable of meeting the unique needs and desires of multiple passengers.
Delphi supplies its innovative diesel common rail system to more and more cars in Europe. The Mercedes-Benz CLC is among the new vehicles to feature Delphi's system which provides high injection pressure, improved nozzle design, superior hydraulic stability and enhanced software strategies. One of the many benefits is a tremendous reduction in NOx.
Delphi's great expertise in Satellite Audio Digital Reception Systems. Delphi is the top provider for hardware for satellite radio. Delphi has produced more than 18 million OEM and retail receivers for satellite radio in the US. Delphi supplies several models, including several new Mercedes models, with SDARS systems for the US market. In Europe, the start of satellite radio is expected in 2009, with a large variety of commercial-free music, news, talk, entertainment and sports programming 24 hours a day and Delphi is ideally positioned to support the launch of this new service.
MagneRide : The world's most advanced suspension control system. Delphi has supplied its technologically advanced MagneRide for the Audi TTS the much anticipated, high performance version of the TT line. Using dampers whose response can be changed by electro-magnetically controlling the properties of the damper fluid, it allows vehicle engineers to achieve an exceptional combination of ride and handling performance. Unlike conventional semi-active suspension systems that use complex electro-mechanical valving, MagneRide is mechanically simple, with no small moving parts and fewer parts in total than a traditional passive damper. The system responds in real time to road and driving conditions based on inputs from sensors that monitor body and wheel motions, providing a fast, smooth, continuously variable damping action from a simple, cost-effective and reliable package.
Among other vehicles to feature Delphi technologies, we can cite:
-Luxury cars Mercedes CLC and Audi TTS
-Speedster Volkswagen Scirocco
-Executive class cars Volkswagen Passat Coupe, Skoda Superb and Audi A4 Avant
-SUVs BMW X6, Mercedes GLK and Volvo XC60
-Medium range family cars Citroen C5, Audi A3 Cabrio, Lancia Delta, Ford Focus CC
-Super mini and city cars Fiat 500 Abarth, Ford Fiesta and Dacia Sandero
-Car derived vans Peugeot Partner/ Citroen Berlingo
"Delphi is associated with most of the eagerly anticipated vehicles at the motor show. Over the last several years, Delphi has won more and more contracts in Europe and there is a growing number of vehicles that feature Delphi's innovative technologies." said Guy Hachey, President Delphi Europe, Middle-East and Africa, "And you'll see our technologies more and more in the coming years".
