NASA uses NavSim’s Software 301st Rescue Squadron is applying NavSim’s electronic navigation technologies to promote safety at sea during shuttle launches

St. John's, Newfoundland - July 9, 2008 - The 301st Rescue Chief of Training located in Florida is currently using NavSim's NavCruiser PRO^TM as an intuitive electronic navigation system for tracking and monitoring ships in the sea to avoid collision with solid rocket boosters during shuttle launches.

Major Robert Haston comments: "NavCruiser PRO is a very flexible program. We fly up to 6,000 feet and 120 knots and manage ships up to 75 miles away. NavCruiser PRO allows us to get exact predictions of where boats will be up to three hours before their arrival. This allows us to quickly get the ship or tug and barge to make minor corrections and avoid having to make them stop or orbit; making all our jobs much easier."

NavCruiser PRO displays Automatic Identification System (AIS) information allowing users to see ample information about ships in any given area. Users can retrieve information such as position, course and speed, allowing them to predict where these ships will be in the near future. The potential of this technology provides an additional safety mechanism to assure a safe shuttle launch.
