Earthrace set to smash world record! 23 Jun 08
The goal of Earthrace is to set a new world record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe, running 100% renewable biodiesel fuel, and with a net zero carbon footprint.
Earthrace is a 24m tri-hull wavepiercer, and is currently on day 57 of its world-record attempt. The boat is currently 2,550 miles ahead of the world record pace set by the British Cable and Wireless team in 1998. "We're into the home stretch now. If everything goes in our favour we'll be back in Sagunto in five days' time, smashing the world record by almost two weeks' said Peter Bethune, the New Zealand skipper of the boat
Earthrace is currently on its last stop in Port Suez, Egypt, where it is refueling using the 100% biodiesel shipped from Portugal. From here, Earthrace with head across the Mediterranean before returning to Sagunto, Spain.
