Media Advisory FAA Cost Share Program for Electronic Flight Bags

Media Advisory-FAA Cost Share Program for Electronic Flight Bags
ENGLEWOOD, CO., AUGUST 1, 2008- As part of its runway safety initiatives FAA released a ground breaking contracting opportunity that will provide a up to 50/50 cost share (up to 30,000 USD/per aircraft) to qualifying operators that have or are planning to deploy Electronic Flight Bags (EFB) with Airport Moving Map.The full FAA document can be found online.

The Jeppesen Airport Moving Map application has been in use on Class 3 EFBs for almost five years now. Jeppesen was granted in March 2008 FAA TSO authorization for its Airport Moving Map application for Class 2 EFB devices, and is the first and only company to have received this approval. Jeppesen Airport Moving Map has been a featured application on Boeing's highly successful Class 3 EFB since its introduction. Boeing has delivered Class 3 EFB to 48 customers for 345 aircraft.

Jeppesen Airport Moving Map uses a detailed database to dynamically render maps of the airport surface, and through the use of GPS technology, show pilots their position ("own-ship") on the airport surface. The result is much improved positional awareness among flight crews, which is a critical safety factor for reducing runway incursions during ground operations at busy commercial airports with complex runway and taxiway layouts. More information can be found on Jeppesen's website.

Rick Ellerbrock, Jeppesen enterprise solutions strategist and noted expert on Airport Moving Map and runway safety, is available for media interviews. Contact Eric Anderson to schedule.
