SEMA manufacturers now able to sell 500 SEMA product

categories to growing Chinese market

DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (September 3, 2008) - New laws in China enable SEMA member companies to sell products legally, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. This historic announcement was presented during a recent meeting at SEMA headquarters in Diamond Bar, California, and was received with appreciation and enthusiasm by the association's leadership.

"Legal uncertainties have been a major deterrent to our member's participation in the growing Chinese automotive market," said SEMA Chairman Jim Cozzie. "This pro industry amendment sends an important signal to Chinese consumers and SEMA members that car personalization is legal and welcomed by the government of China. We applaud the Chinese government for recognizing the important role our industry will play in the future growth of their marketplace and their pledge to continue efforts to legalize specialty equipment."

Mr. Li Rengui, chairman of the government-sponsored China International Auto Parts Expo (CIAPE), stated, "This is a major milestone in what has been an ongoing process to develop the automotive specialty-equipment market in China." Li added, "This decision gives Chinese enthusiasts the ability and the freedom to personalize their cars and sends an important signal that the government supports the growth of this exciting industry."

SEMA has been engaged in on-going discussion with the Chinese government toward developing this important market for its members.
