Global Satellite USA Launches New High Performance Tracking Device For Megayachts, Tenders, Jet Skies And The Racing World
Fort Lauderdale, FL: November 13th, 2008: Global Satellite USA, leaders in the satellite marine industry, launches POLARIS, a new position-reporting device for megayachts, tenders, jet skies and the racing world produced by Trident Sensors Ltd. in the UK.
For safety and security reasons, megayachts require reporting and tracking solutions. With the new POLARIS, if guests on a charter boat take a jet ski or tender for a short trip, and something goes wrong, it is now possible to track them and provide immediate assistance.
Even when tenders are secured tightly at the end of the boat, accidents happen quickly, especially in bad weather and if the tender breaks away, an alarm will go off as soon as the position is altered. An alarm can be triggered if either there is movement without the owner's consent or a revised direction from a planned route already programmed.
CEO, Martin Fierstone, comments, "The low transmission cost, rapid deployment and economic price means that for owners who wouldn't normally consider this high level type of tracking, POLARIS provides a very attractive solution".
The POLARIS is a self-contained, battery-powered, lightweight, tracking device capable of reporting a boat's position, speed and course at pre-determined intervals, and is programmable remotely. The device works on battery power alone or on external power. It is capable of sending over 4000 position reports on one battery charge - the equivalent of every half-hour for 80 days at sea or almost 14 days at 5-minute intervals. What makes this device stand apart is that it combines the best capabilities of other reporting systems all in one unit.
Trident Sensors' tracking devices have been used on many well known ocean races and yachts, including Dame Ellen MacArthur's record-breaking trimaran B&Q. The precursor to POLARIS, the OCTrackers, were developed for Offshore Challenges to be used by the RORC [Royal Ocean Racing Club] to track the fleets in the Round Britain and Ireland Race 2006 and the 2007 Rolex Fastnet Race. The online data management system ran independently using a variety of software programmes, allowing stand-alone management by race organizers.
One of the reasons that make the Trident Sensors' trackers so successful with the racers is that they are low power, lightweight, waterproof and easy to use by exhausted skippers.
