Ortiva Introduces Mobile Video Optimization Gateway

Ortiva's mVOG Increases Mobile Video Coverage, Capacity and Quality in Wireless Networks

Mobile World Congress 2009 Booth #1H33, Hall 1-0

BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ortiva Wireless, a pioneer in dynamic delivery of rich mobile content, today announced that the company's mobile Video Optimization Gateway (mVOG) now supports H.264 QVGA, a mobile phone video protocol and display resolution available in advanced handsets (such as the Nokia N95 and Samsung QBOL). mVOG, previously named Media Streamer, helps mobile operators reduce costs by increasing the quality, reach and delivery efficiency of mobile video, all critical factors for driving subscriber uptake. The new version, deployed by Vodafone Portugal and a top tier North American carrier, enables mobile operators to deliver a TV-like experience while leveraging existing infrastructure.

"The side effects of unpredictable mobile video quality, like slow uptake, stunted revenue, service calls, etc. are forcing mobile operators to evaluate how their offerings can be improved," said William Ho, Research Director Wireless Services, Current Analysis. "Vendors that can help operators deliver a consistent, high quality experience are essential to filling this requirement and driving the mobile video market forward. Furthermore, vendors that can do this without otherwise changing the network offer operators an even greater ROI."

Ortiva's mVOG improves the mobile video experience by adapting streaming video content in real time, based on the individual subscriber's changing network conditions. By dynamically shaping content to each subscriber, operators can reduce costs by maximizing network efficiency, improving subscriber density and expanding overall mobile video coverage. As a result, Ortiva's customers are better able to control and maximize the value of their investment in mobile video, while delivering the highest possible quality of experience to their subscribers. Simply put, Ortiva's mobile video technology makes streaming video look better over a broad range of mobile network conditions found across all wireless networks.

"Ortiva's mVOG ensures exceptional mobile video delivery, whatever the network," said Marc Zionts, CEO of Ortiva Wireless. "With Ortiva, operators can leverage existing 2G networks to secure loyal viewing communities with high quality video, or gain better video consistency and control in 3G and 4G environments. This long-term approach ensures carriers can deliver superior mobile video regardless of any future network changes or upgrades."

Suitable for all network types, mVOG delivers:

  • greater service availability - subscribers can get quality video over a broader coverage area and despite the interference that defeats other delivery solutions
  • increased network efficiency and scalability - each video stream is optimized for best efficiency (as opposed to a "one size fits all" approach)
  • improved coverage density - by shaping the video content, Ortiva not only provides greater coverage, but ensures video delivery even in highly congested urban areas
  • reduced operating costs - designed to work with an operator's existing infrastructure, mVOG customers don't need to make costly network upgrades

The mobile video market is expected to exceed $15 billion in worldwide revenue by 2012. Carriers interested in learning more about this opportunity can contact Ortiva at sales@ortivawireless.com.

Ortiva will be exhibiting at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain at Fira de Barcelona on February 16 - 19, 2009 in Booth #1H33, Hall 1-0.
