WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The International Imaging Industry Association (I3A; http://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.i3a.org&esheet=5918165&lan=en_US&anchor=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.i3a.org&index=1) will present the latest work from its ground-breaking Camera Phone Image Quality (CPIQ) Initiative (http://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.i3a.org%2Ftechnologies%2Fmobile-imaging%2Fcpiq%2F&esheet=5918165&lan=en_US&anchor=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.i3a.org%2Ftechnologies%2Fmobile-imaging%2Fcpiq%2F&index=2) at a free Technical Forum held in conjunction with the CTIA Wireless 2009 event (http://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ctiawireless.com%2F%29&esheet=5918165&lan=en_US&anchor=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ctiawireless.com%2F%29&index=3 in Las Vegas. The CPIQ Initiative seeks to improve overall image quality in order to enhance the use and enjoyment of camera phones by consumers.

I3A's Technical Forum will take place at the Renaissance Hotel on Friday, April 3, 11 AM-1:30 PM, following the keynote speech by former Vice President Al Gore. Lunch will be provided for registered attendees. CPIQ image science experts will present the group's innovative solutions for measuring image quality in accurate and useful ways. CPIQ Phase 2 deliverables will also be premiered for attendees. There is no charge to attend the seminar, but advance registration is needed: RSVP at http://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Fi3a.wufoo.com%2Fforms%2Fi3a-technical-forum-at-ctia%2F&esheet=5918165&lan=en_US&anchor=https%3A%2F%2Fi3a.wufoo.com%2Fforms%2Fi3a-technical-forum-at-ctia%2F&index=4.

I3A's Technical Forum will address these topics:

  • Measurements, test methods and tools that I3A's CPIQ Initiative group has developed
  • How the critical subjective component of determining image quality has been applied and incorporated
  • The specific objective metrics and methods that are now being published by CPIQ
  • What's next: creating the consumer-focused Image Quality Rating System

"If you are a camera phone manufacturer, supplier or vendor, or a wireless carrier, and your customers are less than excited about the quality of the photos taken with their camera phones, you need to know what I3A's CPIQ Initiative is doing to solve your problems and help improve your bottom line," said I3A President Lisa Walker. "You can be among the first to learn about the unique subjective techniques and quantitative methods we've developed to measure, test and improve camera phone image quality, in our Technical Forum at CTIA. And, if you would like to play an active role in the crucial final phase of our CPIQ Initiative, we would welcome your participation now."

CPIQ's ultimate objective is to produce a complete set of standardized image quality testing metrics and methodologies, enabling a consumer-oriented image quality rating system. With CPIQ Phase 2 having reached a successful conclusion, additional interested companies are invited to come on board during the Open Enrollment period for Phase 3, to influence the critical concluding phase of the project. Interested parties should write to Noel Mareno at noelm@i3a.org or call him at +1 214-244-1927; note that membership in I3A is a prerequisite for participation.
