SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Samsung Mobile Innovator today announced the Best in Show winner of its first Mobile Widget Developer Camp is Charles Ying from Piedmont, CA. Developers were invited to participate in the camp on September 11-13 in San Francisco and develop widgets using the recently launched Samsung Mobile Widget SDK (software developer kit) for its unique TouchWizTM interface. With the release of the Samsung Mobile Widget SDK1, developers have the opportunity to create widgets for different Samsung phones across multiple platforms, including Samsung's proprietary operating system.

Charles' winning widget won both Best in Show and the Social Media category. Charles will receive $25,000 in prize money and will attend CTIA I.T. & Entertainment 2009 in San Diego from October 7-10, 2009 and have his widget showcased in Samsung Mobile's booth.

"We challenged developers to use the SDK to develop unique and creative widgets," said Gavin Kim, vice president, content & data services and enterprise enablement, Samsung Telecommunications America. "The judging panel was impressed with the talent in the competition. Charles' final widget really stood out and we're thrilled to recognize him in our booth at CTIA."

The judging panel consisted of Greg Kumparak from MobileCrunch, Eric Chan from mobileslate, Travis Beaven, vp of consumer products, UIEvolution, Matt Peterson, head of consumer services, Samsung Telecommunications America and Jin-Ju Park from Media Solutions Center, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Widgets were judged based on creativity, successful usage of the SDK and overall functionality.
