Partnership with DefensiveDriving.com Offers Motorists a Free BlackBerry Equipped with Safe Driving Software to Break Bad Driving Habits
WASINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The federal government announced today that the time for Americans to take responsibility for their dangerous, distracted driving habits has come. In 2008 alone, distracted drivers killed more than five thousand people and injured over five hundred thousand others in the 1.1 million accidents they caused.
"Distracted driving is a complicated behavioral issue that requires laws, education, and technology to help solve"
ZoomSafer, the leading provider of innovative solutions to prevent distracted driving, will also be stepping up efforts to educate consumers and corporations about the dangers of distracted driving. Through a new partnership with DefensiveDriving.com, ZoomSafer is working to propagate the use of safe driving software by offering DefensiveDriving.com customers a free BlackBerry smartphone equipped with safe driving software from ZoomSafer. "DefensiveDriving.com is excited to partner with ZoomSafer to offer an innovative product which promotes safe driving behavior and aides drivers in focusing on the road," said DefensiveDriving.com's President Kent Bissell. "ZoomSafer's product mirrors DefensiveDriving.com's commitment to increasing awareness of safe driving behaviors and reducing risk."
Part of the government's new campaign to raise awareness on the dangers of using a mobile phone while driving is the creation of a group called FocusDriven.org. Distracted driving accident victims and members of their families will travel across the country persuading motorists to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
"Distracted driving is a complicated behavioral issue that requires laws, education, and technology to help solve," said ZoomSafer's CEO Matt Howard. "Left to their own devices, humans don't always make the best choices, therefore, we've created a simple software application that eliminates the dangerous temptation to text and email while driving and actively promotes hands-free use for making and receiving phone calls. It is our hope that our efforts combined with education provided by organizations such as FocusDriven will begin to turn the tide in the fight against distracted driving."
ZoomSafer is commercially available for BlackBerry devices and can be downloaded by visiting www.zoomsafer.com, the Handmark mobile application catalog or the BlackBerry App World store beginning in early 2010. ZoomSafer is also available in beta for select Windows Mobile phones and will be available for Android phones in early 2010.
