Bright Automotive, a startup lead by a veteran of GM’s EV1 program, unveiled their concept eco-conscious hybrid utility van called the “Idea” at the Capitol on April 21st, 2009.

equipped with premium truck parts, the truck will offer low operating costs for fleet managers and less pollution than current technology.

To meet the 2012-2013 target date, the company is looking to the Department of Energy for a $450 million loan to start production. The company also plans to make this a ‘made in America’ product.

The Bright Idea (a name too clever by half!) is aimed squarely at fleet customers -- the local cable company, the post office, that sort of thing. It's got lots of room -- 180 cubic feet, to be exact -- and a 2,000-pound payload. With a 50-mile, all-electric range, the Idea sounds like a great urban delivery rig.
