If you are interested in boat shows in the greater Washington area, you are in luck: U.S. Sailboat Show was 10/9-13/2008. (Look for it next year. Definitely worth going.) U.S. Powerboat Show was 10/16-19/2008. (Look for it next year.) Bay Bridge Boat Show will be on 4/23-26, 2009. Yacht Show at National Harbor (Washington D.C.) will be on 5/29-31,2009.

SEMA Focuses Future On Enhanced Industry Education, Research

At its annual State of the Association meeting, SEMA leadership emphasized that during challenging times the industry should look to the association and take advantage of all SEMA has to offer its members. Presented at the SEMA Spring Expo/SEMA OFFROAD in Indianapolis on February 7, SEMA Chairman Jim Cozzie, President and CEO Chris Kersting and Chairman-Elect Rick Rollins led the event by emphasizing long-term goals and preparation for the future. The panel, moderated by SEMA Board member Dennis Gage, highlighted the health and direction of the association, and revealed plans that include enhanced education, legislative activity and industry-focused research. Cozzie announced the SEMA Educational Institute as a major project in the final stages of development that will offer continuing education in the areas of product, management and retail training. The program, funded by the Board last July, will be available to members as an online resource. Certification programs were discussed as potential opportunities that could be provided through the Educational Institute. -- Initial Findings Demonstrate that Product and Information Synchronization Can Substantially Increase Sales -- DIAMOND BAR, Calif. -- (February 21, 2008 ) - After instituting a data pilot program among SEMA manufacturers and their warehouse distributor trading partners, SEMA's Business Technology Committee (BTC) announced that the first of three phases is complete and its findings demonstrate that standardized and synchronized product and application information immediately lowers costs of doing business, increases customer satisfaction, and has the potential to substantially increase sales. A white paper summarizing Phase I of the SEMA Data Pool Pilot Program has been published at www.sema.org/btc .
